The opening round of the state basketball tournament is tipping off tonight.
The 7th-seeded Meridian boys are in Ellensburg as they look to pull off an upset over 2nd-seeded Royal in the 1A bracket.
A win would push the Trojans into the quarterfinals, a loss would send them to the Round of 12, where they’d be facing elimination next Wednesday.
Meanwhile, in the 1B tournament, the 2nd-seeded Lummi Nation boys are playing 7th-seeded Moses Lake Christian Academy.
And the 9th-seeded Lummi girls are facing elimination when they take on 16th-seeded Muckleshoot.
The Blackhawk boys tip off at 6:00 from Mount Vernon High School and the girls take the court at 8.

The 9th-seeded Nooksack Valley girls begin the action at noon when they face 16th-seeded Hoquiam in a loser-out game.
After that, the top-seeded Lynden Christian girls play 8th-seeded Naches Valley at 2:00.
The 3rd-seeded LC boys will follow with their match against 6th-seeded Seton Catholic at 4.
The top-seeded Lynden boys are up next against 8th-seeded Mark Morris at 6.
And the top-seeded Lynden girls wrap up the first round when they look to continue their undefeated season against 8th-seeded Bainbridge at 8 pm.
All of those games will be taking place at Mount Vernon High School.
A Seahawks division rival is holding onto their star quarterback.
The Los Angeles Rams announced today that they’ve agreed to a restructured contract with Matthew Stafford that will keep him in LA for at least one more year.
It came after the team gave Stafford permission to speak to other teams about his value in the quarterback market.
ESPN reports that Pete Carroll’s Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants both offered him long-term contracts, but instead, Stafford will stay put for his fifth season with the Rams.

It comes after the Viks beat Seattle Pacific 81-52 last night to get their third straight win.
After that, the Western men are hosting Northwest Nazarene for Senior Night.
The Vikings handled the GNAC-leading Central Washington Wildcats 90-73 last night to pick up the 11th win in their last 12 games.
A win tomorrow could propel them into 2nd place in the conference ahead of the postseason tournament.
That game tips off at 7 pm tomorrow from Carver Gym.
Meanwhile, Western’s nationally ranked softball team is playing its home opener in Bellingham tomorrow.
The #10 Viks are taking their 10-game winning streak to Viking Field for a doubleheader against Simon Fraser.
First pitch for the opening game is at 11 am and the second match will begin at 1:30.
And Washington’s sports icons were out last night for the state’s 90th annual Sports Star of the Year Awards show.
The Mariners’ Cal Raleigh won Men’s Sports Star of the Year, while Olympic gold medal gymnast and Vancouver, WA-native Jordan Chiles took home the women’s award.
